Alexeter Technologies, LLC (Wheeling, IL) announced reaching an
agreement with Tetracore, Inc. (Rockville, MD) to serve as
Tetracore's exclusive distributor of the BioThreat Alert™
(Biological Threat Alert)
Screening Test Strips, the first widely available, commercial
testing system for rapid, on-site detection of biological
warfare agents. The BioThreat Alert Test Strips will be
marketed primarily to domestic emergency personnel, such as
local, state and federal emergency & law enforcement officials,
who are the first on the scene at potential bioterrorism events.
The potential for domestic
terrorism involving toxic biological agents has been of
tremendous concern among both federal and local law enforcement
officials. Until the introduction of the BioThreat Alert
Test Strips, government officials had no rapid, on-site means to
test unknown samples for the presence of threatening biological
agents. Previously, local officials had to wait until test
results were reported by centralized federal and state
laboratories, a process that typically takes 12 - 48 hours.
With the BioThreat Alert System [now known as the Guardian
Reader System™],
local emergency responders can obtain a preliminary screening
test result within minutes of their arrival on the scene.
With the preliminary test results, local officials will be able
to make more informed decisions about the mode and extent of the
emergency response.
Also currently under final
development is a portable electronic reader which will work
together with the BioThreat Alert Test Strips to provide
increased confidence of test results, even under more
challenging field test conditions. Alexeter expects to
make initial deliveries of the Guardian BioThreat Alert Reader
[now known as the Guardian Reader™]
by September of 2000.
Alexeter Technologies, LLC - a
privately held company - develops, manufactures and distributes
time-critical technologies for use in collection, detection and
identification of unknown biological agents in the environment.
